Estimating the Overlapping Pressure of Childrearing and Elderly Support in Chinese Families

As China's declining birth rates and population aging trends intensify, along with adjustments to fertility policies such as the "two-child" and "three-child" policies and the introduction of fertility support and elderly care measures, family responsibilities are undergoing significant changes. This study aims to deepen the understanding of these demographic shifts and systematically summarize emerging trends. Using demographic analysis and microsimulation methods, the research integrates various sociodemographic data to examine individual family structures and member characteristics. The findings are expected to provide historical insights, current analysis, and future projections regarding the overlapping pressures of childrearing and elderly care in families, offering valuable information for policymakers and stakeholders. These insights will enable the government to more effectively identify regional needs and temporal differences, leading to optimized and precisely targeted policies for fertility, caregiving, and elderly care.
