The role of private equity, especially private investors and venture capital funds, is critical in the launch and growth of entrepreneurial ventures.' '&' ' These private investor and venture capital backed ventures are a key component to regional economic development and job creation.' '&' ' Entrepreneurial ventures have been one of the major sources of job creation over the last two decades.' '&' ' These firms hold the greatest potential for innovation, commercialization of technology and sustainable economic development.' '&' ' Innovative entrepreneurial ventures are a key component in the science and technology innovative system.' '&' ' They provide the critical link in moving the innovation from the laboratory to the marketplace.' '&' '

Based on extensive research and work with foreign governments by Dr. Jeffrey Sohl, this presentation will outline several key components of the private equity market with respect to international economic development.' '&' ' Issues addressed include the role of private investors in the seed and start-up funding of high growth entrepreneurial ventures and the interaction between private investors and later stage venture capital investors.' '&' ' Particular attention will be given to public policy initiatives that can facilitate the development of a vibrant entrepreneurial economy and the access to capital for high growth ventures.'
